Stan Trekell Lawrence, KS 09/15/2008 | The Kansas Short Grass Motorcycle Club
Founded 1910
In August 1910, rural Thomas County, Kansas physician Dr. Benjamin J. Patterson, along with a small group of fellow motorcycle enthusiasts, had the vision to create the Kansas Short Grass Motorcycle Club. Over the period of the next 5 years, the club evolved into the nation's finest premier motorcycle-touring group of the era. The club’s annual motorcycle tours through Colorado and Wyoming attracted a great deal of attention as reported by both the trade press and the popular press of the day. Today, a new group of motorcycle enthusiasts based in Lawrence, Kansas has come forward to revitalize the good name of the Kansas Short Grass Motorcycle Club. It is their intention to reestablish the Kansas Short Grass Motorcycle Club as being the finest motorcycle-touring group of the entire United States. An organization meeting was held May 4, 2008 at the Lawrence Public Library to reintroduce the Kansas Short Grass Motorcycle Club to a new generation of riders. Club members will be making a concerted effort this summer to help return the group’s name to national prominence. Stan Trekell, a Lawrence Realtor who is heading the project, was recently quoted as telling fellow club members that, "With your assistance and vision for the future, I am sure that our new club will once again be recognized as the finest in the land." It is to this end that the club will be sponsoring monthly scenic motorcycle tours held the Second Sunday of each month from now through November. The Club hopes to recruit new members along the way. Daylong trips are being planned to tour through northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. Points of interest along the planned routes include: natural scenery, historic locations, museums, cultural events and of course, a good home-cooked meal along the way. The organization is open to riders over the age of 18. All makes and models of motorcycles are welcomed. Membership dues are $50/yr for singles and $75/yr for families. The Club’s next tour will be September 21st and the full details have been forwarded under separate cover. Come join the oldest motorcycle club in the State and become a part of Kansas history!
P.S. We ride the Second Sunday of each month. We meet at the Checker’s Foods parking lot in Lawrence located at 23d and Louisiana Street beginning at 9 am. The tour leaves the parking lot at 10 am. We invite guests of the club to ride on their first tour free of charge to determine if our organization is right for them. Now that we have your contact information, simply keep an eye on your email and you will be kept informed as event announcements are made. We hope to see you soon and be sure to invite your friends!

Dave Clarkston, MI 05/16/2008 | Stumbled across your web site looking at 2002 Shadow photos on Google - one of your riders was a hit on that search and that lead me to read further. I have one (a Shadow I mean! ;-)) and really love it! Great site by the way and great to see a bunch of women who know how to enjoy the open road!!! I am trying to get my wife to realize the great time to be had out there, but have trouble getting her on the back of the bike let alone getting one of her own. I am a CMA (Christian Motorcycle Assoc.- Spirit Warriors Chapt. 517 Clarkston, MI) member (come check us & our website out if you are in the area - http://cmancr3.org/MI/SPIRITWARRIORS), and she goes along for some of those activities - so maybe one day she'll blossom with some of the other women in our group. Well, bless ya all and ride SAFE!!!!!!! (davehd@wideopenwest.com)
